          More and more residents are using their Aadhaar numbers to authenticate themselves. Basing on Aadhaar authentications, residents can avail a number of services.

Total Aadhaar Authentications done as on 29/01/2017 morning - 406,33,95,392

Day by day, residents using Aadhaar authentication is on the increase.

In simple terms, Aadhaar Authentication is a process by which Aadhaar number along with Aadhaar holder’s personal information (biometric/demographic) is submitted to UIDAI and UIDAI responds only with a “Yes/No”.

          Basing on the request, the authentication can be Demographic or Biometric.

          The Aadhaar Demographic authentication is for Name,Gender,DOB,Address as maintained in the UIDAI Database for the respective Aadhaar number.

          The Aadhaar Biometric authentication is to authenticate the Fingerprints or IRIS Scan maintained in the UIDAI Database for the respective Aadhaar number.

Following are the Aadhaar Authentication Offerings:

Type 1 Authentication – Through this offering, service delivery agencies can use Aadhaar Authentication system for matching Aadhaar number and the demographic attributes (name, address, date of birth, etc) of a resident.

Type 2 Authentication - This offering allows service delivery agencies to authenticate residents through One-Time-Password (OTP) delivered to resident's mobile number and/or email address present in CIDR.

Type 3 Authentication - Through this offer ing, service delivery agencies can authenticate residents using one of the biometric modalities, either iris or fingerprint.

Type 4 Authentication - This is a 2-factor authentication offering with OTP as one factor and biometrics (either iris or fingerprint) as the second factor for authenticating residents.

Type 5 Authentication - This offering allows service delivery agencies to use OTP, fingerprint & iris together for authenticating residents.

          Like every technical transaction, at times the Aadhaar authentication may fail. There are various scenarios in which the authentication may fail.

          The scenarios are described here. The respective error code displays an actionable message. Basing on the actionable message the resident can take further action.
