            Tamil Nadu Government vide Press Release dt 05/01/2021 made a major announcement on the issuance of free 2GB Data every day to over nine lakh students.           The eligible candidates will be issued special Data Cards and the eligible data will be transferred daily.           Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Shri K Palaniswami said the data cards will be issued to about 9.69 lakh students studying in the government and government-assisted colleges by the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd. (Elcot), a state government undertaking.           This is to enable students to attend online classes. The state government has taken this decision as colleges have remained closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and were conducting online classes, a PTI report quoted the chief minister as saying in a statement. Students enrolled in government and government-aided arts and science colleges, polytechnic colleges, engineering colleges as well as scholarship funded private colleges
