NPCI_BBPS. Please enable BBPS Bill Payment Channel at ATMs

India has over 2,48,000+ ATMs spread all over India. All these ATMs are linked together by NPCI’s National Financial Switch (NFS).

These ATMs talk to the account holders' bank accounts via the NFS. Of course, each bank will have its own ATM Switch.

Quote from RBI FAQs

5. What are the services / facilities available at ATMs / WLAs?

Ans. In addition to dispensing cash, ATMs / WLAs may offer many other services / facilities to customers. Some of such services include:

·         Account Information

·         Cash Deposit

·         Regular Bill Payment

·         Purchase of Re-load Vouchers for Mobiles (not permitted at WLAs)

·         Mini / Short Statement Generation

·         PIN Change

·         Request for Cheque Book

The key word in the FAQs is ‘MAY OFFER’. Though ‘regular bill payment’, is mentioned in the FAQs, no bank has yet integrated BBPS into their ATM service channel.

Few banks offer payment of own credit card bills via ATM channel. This is not a universal offering.

State Bank of India ATMs offer two additional features i.e

Trust Donation and Electricity Bills viz

Trust Donation Make a donation to your favourite charity. For example, (a) Vaishno Devi (b) Shirdi Saibaba (c) Gurudwara Takht Saheb, Nanded (d) Tirupati (e) Sri Jagannath Temple, Puri (f) Palani, Tamil Nadu (g) Kanchi Kamakoti Petam, Tamil Nadu (h) Ramakrishna Mission, Kolkata (i) Mantralaya, Andhra Pradesh (j) Kashi Vishwanath, Banaras (k) Tulja Bhavani, Mumbai (l) Mahalakshmi, Mumbai and many more.

Bill payment Use SBI ATMs to pay your utility bills viz. Bangalore/Hubli/Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Company, Karnataka and Chattisgarh State Electricity Board.

However, they operate on bilateral arrangements and transactions are restricted only to SBI Account Holders. Non-SBI Account holders cannot avail these facilities.

With an average of 6.50 lacs transactions per day happening on the BBPS Platform, it is not time for NPCI to introduce BBPS transactions via ATMs.

Both the NFS-ATM and BBPS processes are operated by NPCI only. Hence, it is will not be that difficult for the integration.

Benefits:

O1) Instant access to a wide Pan India payment channel

02) NFS Switch and BBPS Switch are both operated by NPCI only. So, quick integration can take place instead of dependence on 3rd parties.
