Parvada Block in Visakhapatnam District goes Live on BharatNet

          The new name of NOFN is BharatNet. The Union  Cabinet on 25.10.2011 approved the NOFN project.

          Objectives of BharatNet:-

Objective 01) BharatNet is planned to connect all the 2,50,000 Gram Panchayats in the country for providing broadband connectivity in the Gram Panchayats.

Objective 02) Non-discriminatory access to the network will be provided to all the telecom service providers.

Objective 03) These access providers like mobile operators, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), Cable TV operators, content providers can launch various services in rural areas. Various applications for e-health, e-education, e-governance etc. will be provided.

The project is being executed by a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) namely Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL), which has been incorporated on 25.02.2012 under Indian Companies Act 1956.

Andhra Pradesh is the first state to execute the BharatNet on its own. It decided not to depend on the rollout plan of BBNL.

Andhra Pradesh State Fibernet Ltd is the Government’s Special Purpose Vehicle which will spearhead the Digital Revolution in Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh has become the first state to opt for executing the National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) on its own and the telecom department will reimburse the cost for the same, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said .

"Fibre network of 7.5 lakh kilometres in 2.5 lakh villages is being further speeded up by allowing willing states to undertake its execution on reimbursement of cost determined by the Department of Telecommunications.

Andhra Pradesh is the first state to have opted for this manner of implementation," Jaitley said while presenting the Budget for 2015-16 in Parliament on 28 Feb 2018.
Andhra Pradesh had proposed to deliver broadband connection with 10-15 mbps download speed to each 12 million households for Rs 150/month that are planned to be covered under state designed project.

The state had proposed to execute the project at a cost of Rs 4,913 crore in five years while Centre has earmarked Rs 1,940 crore for the NOFN project in the state.

For executing this project, the state will create its own corporation to be named Andhra Pradesh Fibre Corporation which would 100 per cent owned by state. This corporation will manage the network and own the assets.

The state will create another entity in name of 'Digital Andhra Corporation' using Public-Private-Partnership model that will be responsible for creation of ecosystem for broadband adoption.

AP Fiber Grid Vision:

” To establish a highly scalable network infrastructure, accessible on a nondiscriminatory basis, to provide on demand, affordable and end-to-end broadband connectivity of 15 Mbps for ALL households and 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps for institutions & Offices by 2018, to enable realization of the Vision of Digital AP, in partnership with the Government of India and the private sector.”

There are 16 Panchayats in PARAVADA Block, Visakhapatnam.
