A wrap is a quick food option usually a soft flatbread rolled around a filling. It is different from Sandwich in the sense that Sandwich is square or rectangle wherein a Wrap is round.

There are a number of wrap fillers around the world. The most famous Wrap variety in India is Bengal’s Kati Roll.

Legend says the Kati Roll originated in 1932 in a Kolkotta restaurant. Over the decades, the Kati Roll culture has spread across India and is now relished with various fillings.

Originally the Kati Rolls were skewered on iron skewers. As it was difficult to handle iron skewers, cooks switched over to bamboo skewers for easy handling.

The name eventually became synonymous with any kind of paratha rolled with stuffing (even when neither kati nor kabab was involved) such as the egg roll or the potato roll, and later even for other breads such as naan or roomali.
