Mandatory FASTag deadline shifted from 1st December 2019 to 15th December 2019

FASTag is the most searched word amongst vehicle owners in India in the last few weeks.

The participants in the whole FASTag cycle are: -

01) MoRTH (Ministry of Road Transport and Highways) – The driving force behind FASTag
02) NHAI – (National Highway of India)
03) National Highway Toll concessionaries -getting ready for 1 Hybrid Lane, rest FASTag ready
04) NETC (National Electronic Toll Collection) – Officials
05) FASTag Issuing Banks – Spreading the Joy of Safe Digital Transactions through FASTag
06) Vehicle Owners – FASTag ready, FASTag not yet ready
07) Fleet Operators – figuring out how to ensure their fleet is ready for FASTag

FASTag is a prepaid tag, affixed on vehicle's windscreen, that enables automatic deduction of toll charges and lets the vehicle pass through the toll plaza without stopping for the cash transaction. FASTAg is accepted at 480+ National Highway Toll Booths and the number keeps on increasing.

State Governments seeing the benefits of FASTag are in the processing of rolling out FASTag toll collections on State Highways.

The earlier deadline for implementing mandatory FASTags was December 1 2019.
It is decided to collect twice the toll amount for using FASTag lanes without tags.
The programme is being implemented pan-India to remove bottlenecks

As this is a massive exercise and the participants require more time to be familiar with FASTag rules, MoRTH has shifted the implementation date from 1st December 2019 to 15th December 2019.
