When will DMart enable UPI in its Stores?
This
is one of my most popular blog posts @ https://innovationinbanking.blogspot.com/2017/07/upi-dmart-thanks-but-no-thanks.html
Almost
every day I get a few hits on this blog post. Just wondering what makes folks
to search for the ‘Payment Modes’, at DMart in the Google search page.
Physical
stores are the strength of DMart and DMart has a negligible online presence.
DMart
started its journey in 2002 and over the years spread its presence in 11 States
and 1 Union Territory. DMart services its customers with 206+ physical stores
and some parts of Mumbai through its online channel.

The
average time spent by a customer inside a DMart store ranges from 60 minutes to
90minutes. DMart stores are typically two stories. Staples and other daily
needs are stocked on the ground floor. Apparels (Kids, Men, Women) , Luggage,
Bed & Bath, Footwear, Crockery, Toys & Games, Plastic containers, Home Appliances,
are stocked on the 2nd floor.
The checkout
is on the ground floor. A typical DMart store has 20+ checkout counters. Not all
the checkout counters are open all the time, few counters are normally closed.
Of course, there is a very heavy rush, then all the counters are open.
The Payment
options are Cash, Credit Card and Debit Cards.
And, here
is the interesting part, DMart’s billing application supports UPI as a checkout
option, but it is still not made available to its customers.
It would
be wonderful if DMart activates UPI as a payment option. I’m hoping for the
best.
To lessen
the pain of lockdown, DMart has a new service i.e Bulk supplies to apartment
complexes.
